The Easy vs. The Hard

The easy road vs. the hard; a very simple philosophy given to me by a wise individual that I apply to almost every aspect of my life, and especially to fitness. Our actions make up our results; it’s as simple as that. If one takes the easy path, expect the results to last just as short as it took to get there.

So what are some examples of an easy path towards a fitness goal versus a hard? I’ll go ahead and make a list of my top 5 in both categories to give you an idea.

The Easy:

  1. Considering Liposuction (or any plastic surgery).
  2. Trying a new detox or crash diet plan.
  3. Buying supplements.
  4. Buying home gym equipment to use eventually
  5. Telling other people your goals.
I did it in only 3 weeks!

The Hard:

  1. Sticking to a plan and being held accountable.
  2. Eating clean calories and preparing food ahead of hunger.
  3. Understanding that there are no wonder pills that work (Only hormone based drugs that have unbelievable health risks!)
  4. Actually moving around and using weights!
  5. Showing people your before and after pictures!
Hard road survivors!

So how do you take on the hard path without getting burnt out? This is a valid question as our jobs, families, relationships, and projects consume a gigantic portion of our time and effort. Start by thinking long term. Find out what motivates you and seek help and accountability. Once you can formulate a decent plan, that’s when short-term monthly and even weekly goals need to be out as the focus.

Change your mindset! I use the word “hard” in this blog to describe the other path. Sometimes I use other words like “challenging”, “focused”, “ridiculous”, or even “fun”. I look at this as a way to practice mental toughness. The worst that could happen is you become more confident and people around you get annoyed with your new outlook on things. That’s ok; I have other words to describe the easy path as well. Lets just say “soft”, “lazy”, “lame”, and “pathetic” come to mind, but I don’t want to be mean.

What I suggest is to go out and find something healthy and active that you like, get fired up and do it with passion! There are a lot of resources out there to choose from. Why not at least match the amount of effort you put into your job. Take a bigger slice out of the obligation pie; don’t let your health go to the wayside.
